About Me
Name: Michael Horst
Birthplace: Johnstown, Pennsylvania
High School: Somerset Area High School
College: Eastern Mennonite University
Degree: History/Social Studies, Minor in Mathematics.
I began teaching after graduating from college in December 2005 by substitute teaching for Rockingham County in the spring of 2006 and taught a 6-week summer school government class in the summer of 2006. I started teaching at Elkton Middle School in the fall of 2006 and I am now in my 12th year teaching math.
I am the oldest child of three with one brother and one sister. I have been married for six wonderful years to my lovely wife, Lindsay and we have one son and one daughter.
I lived in Johnstown, PA until I was 14 with one year living in Colorado when I was 9. My family moved 30 miles south to Somerset, PA when I was 14 where I graduated from Somerset Area High School in 2001. I attended Eastern Mennonite University in the fall of 2001, graduated in 2005, and I have been living in Harrisonburg, Virginia since graduating. Some interests of mine are golf, skiing, some photography, gardening, and traveling. I also restored an antique 1940 John Deere B tractor as an FFA project while in high school.

I have been blessed while growing up to be of a family that enjoys traveling and I have continued to travel when I can during summers and breaks. Over the course of my life, I have visited 39 of the 50 states, Germany, Canada, Honduras for 2 weeks, Guatemala for a 3-month cross cultural semester study abroad, and Cuba for 10 days on that same cross cultural experience. Learning about new cultures and experiencing them firsthand is fun and has allowed me to appreciate the complexity of our world, both through people and through nature.

I have enjoyed teaching more and more as each year goes on and I look forward to all that this year has to offer.
Thank you for your involvement with me, whether directly or indirectly, and I hope that this year is a blessing to you as well.
